BAYCAT

BAYCAT addresses racial, gender and economic inequity by creating powerful, authentic media while diversifying the creative industry. Through the education and employment of low-income youth, young people of color, and young women in the Bay Area, and producing media for socially-minded clients, they are changing the stories that get shared with the world.


Beautiful Day

Beautiful Day is a yearly weekend event that provides volunteer opportunities to serve Santa Clara County through acts of compassion. Projects are carefully chosen and prepared over several months for the big weekend that happens only once a year and thousands of volunteers from all walks of life and skills participate to make a lasting impact in local communities. For those interested in serving monthly on a smaller scale/more personalized projects, they also have a bd365 program

This Field Guide chapter was edited by Layla Shukla-Degen.


Layla is a student at Pioneer High School in San Jose who will graduate in 2025.


When she isn’t editing the Field Guide, she  enjoys hanging out with friends, spending time in nature and tutoring at her local middle school.
