Plug-In Extras

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy.
You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer,
you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.”

Opportunities to recharge with kindred spirits can be hard to find. Plug-In Extras are simple off-shoots of our One-Day Plug-Ins, intended to inspire, motivate and show people how amazing our community is.

Here's a few things we've done:

  • Introduced people to the oh-so-cool South First Friday event in downtown San Jose.

  • Held a contemplative afternoon doing Zentangle, a meditative art form that reveals the creative side in all of us.

  • Visited Pace Art Gallery's new program dedicated to collaboration with interdisciplinary art groups, collectives and studios whose works explore the confluence of art and technology.

  • Helped people find their inner artist with the help of Karen Adamski of ShamaMama, who led a delightful painting workshop.

  • Listened to author Whitney Freya discussing her new book “Rise Above, Free Your Mind One Brush Stroke at a Time.”

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING …

"I love Plug-In Extras because it helps motivate me to do things that I really want to do but don't make time for!"

"Karen's painting workshop was a gift! It was fun, relaxing, and felt like a treat."

"The Plug-In Extra opened my eyes to an intriguing arts scene in San Jose at South First Fridays ... from the eclectic art galleries, to the quality live music, to the painted stilts walkers, it was a breath of fresh air in the sometimes stifling Silicon Valley. As an avid world traveler, I am often pleasantly surprised by the variety of cultural activities are happening in my backyard. Thank you Compass Collective for raising my awareness!"

“Do yourself a favor and take a Zentangle class. It taps into creativity you didn’t even know you had while teaching you to slow down. Colleen’s perfect blend of enthusiasm and mindfulness make her the ideal teacher.”

“Zentangle was such a fun, creative, and relaxing experience. Colleen is a fabulous teacher and she has a gift for making people feel comfortable and confident during the creative process.”
