Family Field Days

"It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world.

It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.”

— L.R. Knost

Family Field Days are an opportunity for families to get together and give back in a meaningful and simple way. FFDs are a one-time service project that are suitable for children. Projects typically last 2 to 3 hours and involve a hands-on activity, such as cleaning up a creek or filling backpacks for underprivileged children.

It is never too early — or too late — to teach your children how to give back, get involved and care about their community. Don't overthink this or fret that it's a hard lesson to teach. When you wheel in your neighbor's trash cans, bring a meal to a friend in need or simply smile at someone you pass, you are teaching your child important lessons about being a good citizen.

Come out and join us for a Family Field Day and see how much fun it is to volunteer together!

WHAT FAMILIES ARE SAYING

"We had a great time! My daughter came home really happy and excited."

"That was totally awesome! When can we do it again?!"

“I absolutely loved walking in the mud finding trash! The kids too. We'll do it again! We are not used to urban parks so it was a whole new experience.”

"I love spending time volunteering with my family. The Family Field Day made it easy and yet it felt like meaningful and important work; what a wonderful way to show my daughters how important giving back is in our hectic lives."

Creek cleanups We've joined The Trash Punx and Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful to fill 137 bags of trash that totaled about 2.7 tons. We also helped clean up Guadalupe River and tidied up Rotary Play Garden with Guadalupe River Park Conservancy.

Helping children We sewed gift bags, decorated first-day-of-school cards and collected donations of new shoes for .

Helping animals We helped Happy Hollow Foundation pack jeans for Jeans for Giraffes.
